Duke-bound guard Tre Jones of Apple Valley has been named a McDonald’s All American.

Jones is one of 24 seniors selected to play in the McDonald’s all-star game on March 28 in Atlanta, the organization said Tuesday.

Jones, a 6-3 guard headed for Duke, averaged a double-double (points and rebounds) in the state tournament in leading the Eagles to the Class 4A championship.

He is the 13th Minnesota player to receive the honor, joining his brother Tyus, who plays for the Timberwolves. Tyus Jones, who played one year at Duke, and Reid Travis, then with DeLaSalle and now with Stanford, both were named in 2014.

The first Minnesota senior to receive the honor was Jim Petersen, then of St. Louis Park, in 1980. He went to play professionally in the NBA.
