New Prague at Delano
7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 20

A marquee matchup in the Wright County Conference is set for Friday, with the winner owning in first place of the East Division standings.

Second-year coach Bryce Tesdahl had his first summer to fully implement his teachings into New Prague's program -- and it has worked. The Trojans (12-0) have emerged as a dark horse state entrant in its second year in the Class 4A field.

New Prague's motion offense has proven tough to beat. The No. 7-4A Trojans move the ball and communicate well, they're patient with their shots and aren’t easily shaken with five of their six top scorers being seniors. Zach Hanson (17.4 points per game) leads the group, followed by twin brothers Jared (11.8 ppg) and Jacob Milinkovich (10.5 ppg).

Delano has the firepower to keep pace with New Prague, as the No. 2-3A Tigers have posted 100-plus points in two consecutive games before falling to Prior Lake 87-72 last Saturday.

Calvin Wishart (25.4 ppg) is the state’s sixth-leading scorer with 305 points on the year, but he is more than willing to hand off the scoring load to teammates such as Derek Techam. The senior scored 32 points in a 102-61 win over Blake on Jan. 12 and is one of four different players who have scored 20 or more points in a game this season.
