Centennial at Champlin Park
7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27

Centennial will attempt to do what no team has been able to do against Champlin Park went the teams meet in a Northwest Suburban Conference North Division matchup on Jan 27: beat the Rebels.

No. 1-3A Champlin Park is 18-0 overall and in control of the division with a 7-0 record entering the second half of the league schedule.

The Cougars (11-8, 4-2) are tied with Andover for second place in the division and would close the gap in the conference standings and record a win over a fellow Class 4A, Section 5 opponent -- not to mention a big boost in confidence --  with a victory over Champlin Park.

It won't be an easy undertaking for Centennial, which was blown out by the Rebels 97-56 on Dec. 2. But priority No. 1 for the Cougars is finding a way to contain Champlin Park's potent guards.

Rebels coach Mark Tuchscherer has four reliable scorers in senior guards J.T. Gibson (18.3 ppg), Marty Hill (16.4 ppg) and Jeremy Johnson (12.7 ppg), as well as sophomore guard McKinley Wright (13.7 ppg).

Centennial relies heavily on junior center Tyler Peterson, who is averaging 24.7 points per game. Sophomore center Alexander Facon is second on the team in scoring at 13.5 ppg.
