The North division of Class 2A's Section 6 promises to provide a very competitive tournament this postseason. Five teams look to be legitimate contenders for the subsection title, including Melrose and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.

Melrose may be the favorite. The Dutchmen are 12-0 overall and 7-0 in section play.

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, however, is a close second. The Thunder are 8-1 overall and 4-0 in section play coming into the week.

Melrose's high-scoring offense leads all section teams in scoring, averaging 69.9 points per game. Senior forward Blake Gerads scored 26 combined points in victories at Yellow Medicine East (65-37 on Jan. 6) and BOLD (71-58 on Jan. 9).

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle gives up the fewest points per game in the section at 45.7. The Thunder's top offensive options are seniors Derek Eberle (14.7 ppg) and Tommy Geisenhof (13.8 ppg).
