Wayzata at Eden Prairie
7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9

Wayzata looks more poised to make an impact in Lake Conference play a year after going winless against league opponents.

The Trojans are 1-1 in the conference this season with a 62-48 victory over Edina on Dec. 19 and a 61-59 loss at No. 10-4A Hopkins on Dec. 11.

Wayzata has a chance to prove prove its not a conference pushover on Jan. 9 when the 9-2 Trojans travel to take on No. 3-4A Eden Prairie (12-0).

The Trojans have shown the ability to close out tight games, including three they won by two points. Wayzata looks to do the same against a tough Eagles team, which has quality wins over No. 2-3A St. Paul Johnson (100-56), No. 7-4A Minnetonka (106-86), Lakeville North (68-67) and No. 8-4A Shakopee (68-66).

Grantham Gillard has been a force for the Eden Prairie, averaging 19.8 points per game. The Trojans counter with a three-headed attack consisting of Johnny Beeninga (16.7 ppg), Jack Sowada (13.7 ppg) and Austin Slater (12.1 ppg).
