Rochester John Marshall blew out Faribault 72-48 in the season opener Nov. 21 and edged Farmington 71-69 one day later.

Mankato East opened its season with an 88-80 loss to Holy Family Catholic on Nov. 20 but rebounded to defeat New Ulm 78-59 two days later.

The Cougars must slow down Rockets junior forward Michael Hurt to keep pace with John Marshall in the Big 9 Conference matchup. Hurt is averaging 26 points per game through two contests.

East counters with Gorg Alhag, who scored 17 points in the victory over New Ulm. The senior guard averaged 14.8 points per game to lead the Cougars in scoring last season.
