Fans' choice for Top Performer

Jordan Belka, Rogers: After a 2-4 start, the Royals (4-5) have won two of their last three due in part to the play of Belka, who finished with a team-high 31 points in a 77-63 triumph over Moorhead on Jan. 5.


Top Performer candidates

Matthew Hurt, Rochester John Marshall: Hurt continued his torrid scoring streak with two impressive outings. He had 46 points (and 17 rebounds) in an 82-65 victory over Owatonna on Jan. 2. Mankato East, ranked No. 7 in Class 3A by Minnesota Basketball News, slowed Hurt down, holding him to 30 points (and 15 rebounds) in a 75-63 win over the No. 9-4A Rockets.

Calvin Wishart, Delano: Wishart reached 32 points in a game for the fourth time this season as the the No. 9-3A Tigers (8-2) rolled Rocori 73-39 on Jan. 6. The senior is averaging 32.3 a game this year.

Matt Todd, Monticello: Todd overcame a slow shooting night (36 percent from the field) by scoring from the free-throw line, where he went 11-for-14 en route to a 31-point performance in an 82-63 victory over Zimmerman on Jan. 4.

Marcus Johnson, St. Agnes: Johnson led St. Agnes with 36 points, but the Aggies came up just short in 72-70 loss to Blake on Jan. 4. Two days later, he posted a 29-point game in a 69-61 win over St. Paul Washington. Johnson is averaging 26.1 points per game this season.

Noah Kannegiesser, Hancock: Kannegiesser is averaging 35.2 points per game for No. 20-1A Hancock thanks to performances similar to the one he had last week. Kannegiesser finished with 28 points in a 65-52 win over West Central Area on Jan. 4.

Carson Becicka, Mesabi East: Becicka helped Mesabi East (8-3, 3-2) extend its winning streak to four games after a 25-point game in a 69-53 victory against Chisolm on Jan. 2 and a 19-point outing in a 66-60 win over International Falls three days later.

Noah Slagter, Willmar: Slagter helped No. 8-3A Willmar (11-0, 4-0) blow out two more opponents this season. He scored 35 in a 74-49 win over Becker on Jan. 2 and posted 16 points in a 75-57 win over Rocori.

Jenson Beachy, Perham: Beachy knocked down six three-pointers and finished with 24 points to power No. 6-2A Perham (11-0, 4-0) past Hawley 80-69 on Jan. 5.

Courtney Brown, East Ridge: The Raptors (7-3, 1-1) defeated St. Paul Central 72-66 on Jan. 3 and topped Stillwater 70-58 two days later behind Brown, who scored 27 and 21, respectively, in the back-to-back victories.
