Player of the Week winner

Beijan Newburn, Maranatha. Newburn had 34 points against Mayer Lutheran on 15 of 29 shooting in a 63-59 loss. Newburn also scored 30 against Holy Family Catholic after going 14 of 20 from the field in a 71-62 win.

Player of the Week candidates

Matthew Hurt, Rochester John Marshall. Hurt had a monster week for the Rockets in wins over Rochester Mayo and Lakeville South. Hurt put up 38 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the Rockets' 84-55 victory over the Spartans and followed that with a 46-point, 17-rebound effort in a 75-72 win over the Cougars.

Tre Jones, Apple Valley. Jones put together a highlight reel against Minnehaha Academy in an 82-79 loss when he scored 39 points in a matchup of two defending state champions. He also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Calvin Wishart, Delano. The Georgia Southern recruit is averaging 37 points per game and scored a season-high 47 points in a 104-88 win over Princeton. Wishart, a 6-foot-2 guard scored 32 against Fergus Falls and Waseca.

Jalen Suggs, Minnehaha Academy. The sophomore guard had 19 points and 14 rebounds against Apple Valley in the 82-79 victory. He followed that with a 25-point game against Park Center in a 61-55 win.

David Roddy, Breck. Roddy, a junior center for the Mustangs, is averaging 36 points per game after opening the season with games of 37, 32 and 39 points. Roddy had 37 in an 82-75 loss to Perham.

Charlie Gorres, Park of Cottage Grove. Gorres is leading a resurgent Park of Cottage Grove squad after scoring 33 points in each of the team’s first two wins. The Wolfpack defeated Henry Sibley 81-58 and Hill-Murray 71-57.

Michael Jones, Woodbury. Jones dropped 29 points on Lakeville North in a 79-64 loss and scored 35 against Wayzata in an 88-64 loss. Jones, a 6-foot-5 Davidson recruit, will try to lead the Royals to their first win Tuesday against Rosemount.

Matt Todd, Monticello. Todd scored 45 points against No. 2-3A Orono in an 88-84 loss. Todd also had 16 points in an 80-67 loss to Minnetonka.

Benji Lundberg, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva. The senior Panthers forward posted back-to-back 20-plus point games to open the season. Lundberg scored 22 in a 45-37 win over St. Clair and followed that with a 35-point effort against Maple River in a 77-63 win.
