Class AAAA results

Hopkins' Joe Coleman

No. 1 Hopkins 75, No. 4 Cretin-Derham Hall 56

Two-time defending state champion Hopkins broke open a close game in the second half, rolling past fourth-seeded Cretin-Derham Hall in the Class AAAA semifinals at Target Center. The Royals will play for their third straight title on Saturday night. Locked in a 44-41 game with 12:20 remaining, the Royals (30-1) went on a 20-4 run over the next 8 minutes, 36 seconds to take control. University of Minnesota-bound Joe Coleman had eight of his game-high 29 points during the streak and finished by shooting 12-of-16 from the floor. Most of his points came in the paint, as did the 15 points (and 10 rebounds) posted by Marvin Singleton, who was 7-of-10 shooting. Hopkins outrebounded the Raiders 42-18, with 17 coming on the offensive glass. Siyani Chambers added 10 points and 10 assists. Cretin-Derham Hall (23-8) was led by guard Raijon Kelly (16 points) and Cortez Tillman (14 points).

No. 2 Eden Prairie 67, No. 3 Osseo 56

Too big, too strong, too deep. Second-seeded Eden Prairie was all of the above as it beat third-seeded Osseo in the Class AAAA semifinals at Target Center. The Eagles (27-4) set up a rematch with Hopkins in the state title Saturday night -- the same two schools met last weekend in the girls' Class AAAA championship game.  Dylan Stewart (24 points, 8 rebounds) and Connor Nord (18 points, 9 rebounds) helped the Eagles to an overwhelming 51-21 rebounding advantage over the Orioles (28-3). Joey Sonnenfeld (21 points) and Terez VanPelt (13 points) kept Osseo close from the outside, but couldn't overcome the Eagles' second-chance points.

Columbia Heights' Zach Lofton

No. 4 Columbia Heights 57, New Prague 50

Columbia Heights hadn't been to the state tournament since 1930. Now the Hylanders are going to the championship game after beating upset-minded New Prague in the Class AAA semifinals at Target Center. Zach Lofton scored a game-high 31 points on a variety of moves, while Jordan Mills added a double-double (11 points, 16 rebounds) and blocked a 3-point attempt in the final minute for the Hylanders (25-6). New Prague (24-7) was paced by Cale Girten (17 points, 9 rebounds) and Jed Kreuser (17 points). The Trojans again were good from three-point range (11-of-27, 40.7 percent), but couldn't overcome a 41-30 rebounding edge by Heights or 21 turnovers.

No. 3 Orono 50, No. 3 Waconia 48

After losing twice to its Wright County Conference rival during the regular season, third-seeded Orono won when it mattered most, beating second-seeded Waconia in the Class AAA semifinals at Target Center. The back-and-forth game went down to the final buzzer, when Ben Kortuem's three-pointer rimmed out for Waconia (28-2), sending Orono (27-4) into a wild celebration. Jordan Smith finished with 22 points for Orono, including a 15-foot jumper in the lane that regained a 49-48 lead for the Spartans with 23 seconds remaining. Orono's Jeremy Borg added 11 points and a big block on Alex Schmitt with 1.6 seconds to go. Kortuem finished with 19 points, while Shelby Moats had a double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds) for Waconia.

MACCRAY's Seth Hinrichs

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 70, Goodhue 54

The unbeaten season is still going -- 31 and counting. Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa never trailed in crusing past Goodhue in the Class A quarterfinals at Williams Arena. The Jaguars (31-0) are the lone remaining unbeaten team in the state and showed it Friday morning. They outrebounded Goodhue (24-8) by a wide 53-24 margin, including 22 on the offensive glass. Both Brady Koehler (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Connor Goodwin (13 points, 12 rebounds) racked up double-doubles and Kevin Kuefler (22 points, 9 rebounds) just missed. Brian Goodwin added 14 points for BBE. Ashton Erie led Goodhue with 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Michael McNamara added 16 points before both fouled out in the closing minutes. Erie's 18 second-half points allowed Goodhue to cut the lead to just three (40-37) with 11:16 left, but the Wildcats couldn't sustain the momentum.

Hinrichs poured in a game-high 21 points and added 15 rebounds for the double-double, while Boike added 19 points for the Wolverines (27-3). Maranatha Christian (26-3) had three players in double figures: Darian Pittman (19), Isaiah Hanson (16) and SaVaughn Jordan (13). The Mustangs shot just 1-of-11 on threes (9.1 percent) and 22-of-58 (37.9 percent) overall.

Chisholm 51, Fosston 39

Adam Vake powered Chisholm to a victory over Fosston in the Class A quarterfinals at Williams Arena. Vake finished with a double-double (19 points, 12 rebounds) while shooting 8-of-12 from the field for the Bluestreaks (28-3). Garrett Carlin led Fosston (21-7) with 13 points and 7 rebounds before fouling out.  They were the only two double-digit scorers in a game that was dominated by Chisholm's defense, which limited the Greyhounds to just 25.5 percent shooting (12-of-47).

Jacob Voss led Upsala (25-4) with 15 points and 11 steals -- a rare double-double -- while Ethan Schultz and Christian Pekarek each added 12 points.  Upsala forced 23 turnovers, including 19 steals, but were unable to overcome 33.3 percent shooting (19-of-57). Springfield shot 50.0 percent in the game (22-of-44).
