Champlin Park, DeLaSalle get top seeds for boys' basketball tournament

Tip-off is Wednesday for Class 4A, 3A and 2A at Target Center and Williams Arena. Class 1A begins play on Thursday at Williams Arena.

Champlin Park and DeLaSalle are the top seeds in Class 4A and 3A boys’ basketball state tournaments that tip off Wednesday at Target Center and Williams Arena.

The 4A tournament will have a new champion after Wayzata, making its first state tournament appearance since 1959, defeated Hopkins on Wednesday. In 3A, DeLaSalle is seeking its sixth consecutive state title.

Defending champion Minneapolis North got the No. 1 seed in Class 1A.

Seedings and quarterfinal round pairings for three classes were announced Saturday by the Minnesota State High School League. Class 2A matchups will be announced after the completion of one section final game Saturday night.

Class 4A, Wednesday, Target Center

10 a.m., Chaska vs. Champlin Park

Noon, Wayzata vs. Lakeville North

2 p.m. Andover vs. Maple Grove

4 p.m. Cretin-Derham Hall vs. Apple Valley

Class 4A bracket

Class 3A, Wednesday, Williams Arena

10 a.m., Big Lake vs. DeLaSalle

Noon, Columbia Heights vs. Fergus Falls

2 p.m., St. Thomas Academy vs. Austin

4 p.m., Grand Rapids vs. Marshall

Class 3A bracket

Class 1A, Thursday, Williams Arena

11 a.m. Red Lake vs. Minneapolis North

1 p.m. Springfield vs. Nevis

3 p.m. Lake Park-Audubon vs. Goodhue

5 p.m. North Woods vs. Central Minnesota Christian

Class 1A bracket

Class 2A quarterfinals will be Wednesday evening, with two games each at Target Center and Williams Arena.

Semifinals in Class 4A and 3A are Thursday at Target Center. Semifinals in Class 2A and 1A are Friday at Target Center. All four classes have their championship games on Saturday at Target Center.
