All-metro first team

Metro Player of the Year McKinley Wright

School: Champlin Park | Year: Senior | Position: Guard | Ht: 6-0

Rebels’ all-time leading scorer was quickly identified as the No. 1 point guard prospect by Dayton. “A true point guard who has a pass-first mentality,” Flyers coach Archie Miller said. “His physical tools and explosiveness with the ball will really allow us to put pressure on teams in transition.” Can score almost at will and has turned his jump shot into a weapon.

Tre Jones

Averaging 23.3 points and 10 rebounds to go with 7.4 assists per game. “Has the unique ability to dominate play and make a significant impact on the game offensively, defensively and on the boards,” Apple Valley coach Zach Goring said. “His style of play makes it easy for him to put his teammates in spots to be a successful.”

Nathan Reuvers

School: Lakeville North | Year: Senior | Position: Forward  | Ht: 6-10

Wisconsin recruit really made his presence felt on the interior this year. Averaging 25.6 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.5 blocked shots per game. An outstanding shooter, 60 percent from the floor, 48 percent from beyond the arc and 78 percent from the free-throw line. “Nathan has improved in so many ways,” Panthers coach John Oxton said.

Brad Davison

School: Maple Grove | Year: Senior | Position: Guard  | Ht: 6-3

Star Tribune Metro Football Player of the Year brings his fall sport toughness and leadership to the court.. Averages 24.9 points, 7.9 assists and 4.6 steals per game. The school’s all-time leader in all three categories. Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said his future Badger  “brings a tremendous toughness and competitive spirit to both ends of the floor.”

Goanar Mar

School: DeLaSalle | Year: Senior | Position: Forward  | Ht: 6-7

George Mason recruit is a big reason the Islanders are seeking a sixth consecutive Class 3A state championship. His length makes him a matchup nightmare and he’s added strength to his game. “Goanar is a winner,” George Mason coach Dave Paulsen said. “Goanar always makes his teammates better. He has an incredibly mature understanding of the game, and a natural charisma that is sure to make him a fan favorite.”

All-Metro first-team members sound off on….

What drives the basketball passion Favorite individual moment Favorite team to root for
McKinley Wright Competing at a high level. And whenever something in life isn’t going right, I can always go to the gym to clear my mind. Scoring 46 points against DeLaSalle. Dayton Flyers, because that’s where I’ll be attending college next year.
Tre Jones Ever since I can remember, I’ve been around the game. The first goals I ever made for myself were for basketball. Winning the gold medal with Team USA. Minnesota Timberwolves. [My brother] Tyus Jones plays for them and he is my favorite player.
Nathan Reuvers Getting to play with teammates that strive to win. The game helps me forget about everything else. Beating undefeated Osseo to go to the state championship game in my junior year. Notre Dame football. I always go to games with my family.
Brad Davison It’s been a passion ever since a young age growing up watching my sisters. They have motivated and inspired me to work hard and improve in everything I do. My freshman year against Osseo when I hit the game-winning three! The Minnesota Vikings, because football is another sport I love.
Goanar Mar I love to compete. The game has opened so many doors for me and given me the opportunity to play against the best. Blocking a shot from Orono to go to state. We were up three and that shot could have given them a chance. James Harden and the Houston Rockets. I like the way he controls the offense and the tempo he plays at. He can score from everywhere.

Theo John, Champlin Park, sr., F, 6-9: Excellent at using his length, timing and athleticism to be a big-time defender. Second in the state for blocked shots (146) to Daniel Oturu. The Marquette recruit knows how to attack the rim offensively.

Isaac Johnson, Minneapolis North, sr., G, 6-4: Talented, athletic scorer who can knock down the three-pointer or dunk. Outstanding defender who the Polars count on to shut down their opposition’s go-to player.
