Apple Valley's season has not played out the way the way the team had hoped, but in freshman standout Tyus Jones' second game back since missing 13 games because of a lacerated kidney, the Eagles wasted no time getting back to their old form.

At home Friday against Bloomington Jefferson, the Eagles were in control from the start, taking a 51-21 lead at halftime and winning 76-44.

Sophomore guard Dustin Fronk stole the show early, scoring 16 first-half points and hitting four of five three-pointers. He stayed hot in the second half, ending the game with 25 points.

"I knew he had it in him, but ... when he's making shots like that he just gives us a whole different look, and he makes us a whole different team," Apple Valley senior forward Tom Schalk said.

Jones looked like his old self from the opening tip, entering halftime with 12 points, seven assists and three steals.

In the second half, he got his teammates into the act, displaying the uncanny knack for finding the open man that has made him among the most sought-after high school players in the state.

Jones, who finished with 12 points and 11 assists, said he feels like he's back to 100 percent.

"It's been a long seven weeks," he said of his hiatus, "but it's exciting to get back out there and help the team out."

Schalk, the team's leading scorer this season, started slow but finished with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Eagles coach Zach Goring said Jones' absence was "frustrating at first, but then we're looking at it that it's just going to make us better. People had to step up and make plays."

Goring said there is a sense of urgency, but also of excitement for the Eagles, who will have little margin for error as they try to bounce back from a 3-4 start in the South Suburban conference.
