Fergus Falls defeated St. Cloud Tech 57-53 in overtime on Jan. 19 after outscoring the Tigers 8-4 in the extra session.
The Otters (17-4, 10-2), ranked No. 11 in Class 3A by Minnesota Basketball News, trail St. Cloud Tech in the Central Lakes Conference standings by a half-game with two league contests to play. A win Tuesday gives Fergus Falls a tiebreaker should both teams finish atop the league standings.
St. Cloud Tech (18-5, 11-2) has been in the driver’s seat of the conference title race for most of the year, but the Class 4A Tigers have a tough road ahead as they face No. 10-3A Alexandria and defending league champion Fergus Falls in the final two weeks of the regular season. The Tigers can clinch the conference title outright by avenging their earlier loss to the Otters.
Fergus Falls and St. Cloud Tech have combined to win two of the past three league crowns and Thursday’s meeting could be the deciding game this winter, making it our Top Game of the Week.
