Minneapolis Patrick Henry picked up another conference win Wednesday night, defeating Minneapolis Washburn 66-54. The contest was a matchup of two contrasting styles. Patrick Henry wanted to push the ball on offense, while Washburn tried to slow the game down, utilizing its strength inside.

Terell Smith led the way for Patrick Henry, scoring a game-high 23 points. Terrell Adams and Perchean Coleman each netted 12 for the Millers.

Patriots coach Jeremy Miller talked about his team's love of transition.

“We like to play fast. We know we are our best when we are pushing it in transition,” Miller said.

The matchup also dictated a bit of strategy from Miller.

“It was also intentional because we scouted Washburn, and we saw that they like to slow it down, and be methodical, and we don't want to play that way,” he said.

The Patriots' fast pace allowed them to get off to a quick start, but the Millers clawed their way back behind six first half points from both Adams and Coleman.

Washburn worked its way into a halftime lead by a score of 30-28. Patrick Henry's Smith led all scorers with 12 at the break.

The second half featured a series of runs, started by Washburn extending the lead. However, Patrick Henry, ranked No. 13 in Class 3A by Minnesota Basketball News, put the clamps down on defense, and stormed back to take the lead with just under five minutes remaining.

Miller talked about the change in defensive mindset.

“I told them to get back to our basics, having strong help side, having each other's back. They did a great job of having each other's back,” Miller said.

Smith and Lynn definitely had each other's back, as the duo combined for 38 points.

Smith led the way with 23 points, showcasing his aggressive offensive play.

“My teammates gave me good looks. If I am not having a good shooting night I look to pass, but tonight I started off hot, so they kept looking for me,” Smith said.

Lynn picked up his game in the second half, scoring 14 of his 15 in the final frame to lead the comeback.

“On offense we needed to keep our composure, and on defense we know we needed stops so we did it as a team.” Lynn said of the second half charge.

Lynn gave credit to the Patriots bench as well.

“The bench kept us together. On defense they kept us hyped, so we knew where to be. It helped us get to our spots. On offense we really needed to push it,” Lynn said.

Lynn highlighted Miller's philosophy of controlling the tempo.

“Every time we got a rebound he would say push it, because we needed to play at our tempo,” he said.

Behind Smith's 23 points and Lynn's 15, the Patriots move to 15-6 overall and 12-2 in the conference, including having won seven of their last eight games.

Patrick Henry looks to continue its hot streak with a home matchup against St. Paul Como Park on Saturday.

With the loss, the Millers move to 13-9 and 7-6 in the conference.
