Updated boys' basketball state rankings: Feb. 2

Class 2A

The Class 2A poll provided by Minnesota Basketball News boasts two top-5 teams with 16-0 records: Melrose and Crosby-Ironton.

Third-ranked Melrose retained its spot after three wins last week, while Crosby-Ironton jumped two spots to No. 4 after an 18-point victory over Staples-Motley in its only game of the week.

Minnehaha Academy remained No. 1 and Caledonia held steady at No. 2 in the rankings.

Michael Schaefer continues to lead the offense for No. 5 St. Cloud Cathedral, averaging just under 22 point per game. The junior has 417 points this season, which is ninth-most in the state. The Crusaders dropped one spot the rankings after going 2-1 last week.

New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva moved up one spot to No. 8 despite recording its first loss of the season, a 65-49 defeat at the hands of No. 8-3A Waseca. Eden Valley-Watkins, which did not appear in last week’s rankings, made its way to No. 9 after two wins.

Class 1A

Minneapolis North and Red Lake held on to their top spots in the poll, as both posted perfect two-victory weeks.

Top-ranked North extended its winning streak to 16 games with a 74-70 win over Caledonia on Saturday.

Second-ranked Red Lake rolled in its last two games, winning both by at least 54 points. The Warriors average 82 points per game while Senior Jamie Cook leads the team at 19 points per game.

Heritage Christian Academy is the biggest mover in Class 1A, jumping seven spots to No. 3 after winning three games last week, including a 51-48 victory over No. 4-1A Central Minnesota Christian. Eagles senior CJ Woda leads the team in scoring at 21.4 ppg.

Cleveland moved up one spot to No. 8 after posting an impressive 3-0 week. All of the victories were by at least 22 points and improved the Clippers' record to 18-0.

Nevis is up one spot to No. 5 after a perfect week extended its winning streak to 11 games, while No. 9 Spring Grove and No. 10 Lake Park-Audubon landed in the top 10 after not appearing in the rankings a week ago.

Class 4A

The top 5 teams are: No. 1 Champlin Park, No. 2 Maple Grove, No. 3 Lakeville North, No. 4 Wayzata and No. 5 Apple Valley

Class 3A

The top 5 are: No. 1 DeLaSalle, No. 2 Delano, No. 3 Marshall, No. 4 Mahtomedi and No. 5 Orono.
