Kyler Kluge did it all for Eden Prairie on Friday night.

The junior guard scored a game-high 22 points and played some staunch defense, limiting Edina's Anders Nelson to four points to defeat the Hornets 66-43 at Edina Community Center.

"Kyler was fantastic," Eden Prairie coach David Flom said. "He shot the ball extremely well and it was great. He seems to have great games against Edina."

In front of a full crowd for both teams, the Class 4A, No. 8 Eagles (10-6, 3-2 Lake Conference) reached double-digit wins on the season with a dominating defensive performance. Meanwhile, the No. 12 Hornets (9-4, 1-3 Lake) lost their third game in a row.

Nelson previously scored 19 points the last time the two teams faced. Friday night, his four all came in the first half.

In addition to his defense Kluge also had five of the Eagles' seven 3-pointers.

"I just tried to move around and use screens as much as possible," Kluge said. "Just use the offense, use each other and I think we all did pretty well with that."

The Hornets only led once all game, coming early in the first half. The team made two of its 3-point attempts.

The game was close midway through the first half when Eden Prairie led 17-16. The Eagles ended the half on a 16-6 run to pull ahead.

The Eagles increased their lead to 25 with just over nine minutes left in the second half on a 3-pointer by Drake Dobbs.

Edina was never able to stay out of foul trouble. Eden Prairie went to the free-throw line 20 times and made 12 of its attempts. The Hornets made five of their 10 attempts.

"We communicated well," Kluge said. "Talking to each other, making sure everything's clear and I think that really helped in this game.

Eden Prairie led 36-22 at halftime. Kluge had 10 of his team's points while Walt McGrory led Edina with eight points. McGrory finished with a team-leading 13 points including a 3-pointer.

The Eagles have now won four of their last six games, with this win marking their first road victory in the Lake Conference in their third try. Edina's 43 points was the lowest by an Eden Prairie opponent this season.

"We approached this like a playoff game," Flom said. "We get to continue to talk about the value that if we defend like that, we can defeat anybody."
