Player of the Week candidates for Jan. 2-7

This week's winner

Matthew Hurt, Rochester John Marshall. The sophomore forward recorded 40 points, 14 rebounds and four assists in a 85-68 victory over Owatonna. Hurt is second in the state in total points (277) and scoring average (30.8 points per game).

The other candidates

Johnny Erickson, Hope Academy. The senior guard contributed 38 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to help the Lions cruise past Community of Peace 93-78.

Daniel Oturu, Cretin-Derham Hall. The junior forward had 17 points, 18 rebounds and two assists to lead the Raiders to a thrilling 76-73 victory over Mounds View. Oturu is second in the state in rebounds (167) and rebounding average (18.6 per game).

Logan Rezac, Andover. With 35 points, eight rebounds and three assists, the senior guard led the Huskies to a 65-61 victory over Cambridge-Isanti. He is the state's third-leading scorer with 270 points.

Savion Scott, Minneapolis Patrick Henry. The senior guard dropped a season-high 40 points in a 92-80 loss to conference rival Minneapolis North.

Sean Sutherlin, Irondale. The Northwest Suburban Conference's second-leading scorer finished with 40 points, six rebounds and 11 assists in a 79-73 defeat to Totino-Grace. The senior guard has scored 256 points this season.

Jarvis Thomas, Orono. The junior center posted his seventh double-double of the season after finishing with 20 points and 20 rebounds in a 83-76 win over Benilde-St. Margaret’s.

Race Thompson, Robbinsdale Armstrong. The junior forward contributed 25 points, 12 rebounds and two assists in a 66-64 victory over St. Louis Park. Thompson leads the Falcons with 155 points and 71 rebounds on the season.

Odell Wilson IV, Minneapolis North. The junior forward tied a season-high with 24 points and grabbed a season-best 15 rebounds in a 90-72 victory over Minneapolis Washburn. It was his sixth double-double of the season.

Calvin Wishart, Delano. The junior guard put up 38 points to help the Tigers defeat Benilde-St. Margaret’s 76-68. Wishart is the state's fifth-leading scorer with 258 points this season.
