Recap: Delano surges past Mankato East in second half

The Tigers pulled away from the Cougars after a close first half, winning 77-63.

Delano’s Calvin Wishart led a second-half charge Saturday in a 77-63 victory over Mankato East at the Breakdown Sports Tip Off Classic at Hopkins High School.

Wishart scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the second half and the rest of the Tigers clamped down on defense to erase a 36-35 halftime deficit.

Nick Cayler contributed with 10 points in the second half and finished with 12 for the game for Delano (4-0), which ranks No. 3 in Class 3A by Minnesota Basketball News. Derek Techam led the Tigers in the first half with 11 points and finished with 16 points behind four three-pointers.

Damani Hayes led the Cougars (2-2) with 18 points and tried to keep the game close with 13 points in the second half. No other Mankato West player scored more than four points in the second half beside Hayes.

Kong Kong finished with 15 points but 13 of those came in the first half.
