Apple Valley freshman boys' basketball phenom Tyus Jones has been sidelined indefinitely because of a kidney injury, family relative Jared Nuness confirmed last week to the Star Tribune.

The injury happened in the Eagles' victory over St. Louis Park last Tuesday.

The school later issued a statement on behalf of the family.

"After spending some time at Children's Hospital over the last few days, he is on the road to recovery," it read. "Further medical tests will be done to evaluate his progress. No timetable has been set for his return to action. The thoughts and well-wishes from so many people is appreciated."

Jones, a 6-foot guard, scored 19 points in the victory over the Orioles. He averaged 16.3 points as an eighth-grader, earning him a spot on the Star Tribune all-Metro second team.
