Apple Valley boys’ basketball freshman phenom Tyus Jones, a second-team Star Tribune all-metro selection as an eighth-grader who has already been offered a scholarship by Iowa, will miss 4-5 weeks with a kidney injury, family relative and ex-Gophers standout Al Nuness confirmed Thursday.
Jones was hurt during Apple Valley’s season-opening victory over St. Louis Park on Tuesday. He had 19 points in the 76-70 win, but he was later admitted to the hospital. He was released Thursday, Nuness said, and was said to be in good spirits.
