Minnetonka’s Amar Miller scored a game-high 27 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Skippers lost to Madison East 84-73 at the Breakdown Sports USA Tip Off Classic at Hopkins High School on Saturday.
Max Cooper finished with 19 points and Seth Coatta added 17 for Minnetonka.
Sophomore Keshawn Justice, who already has a Division I offer from the Univeristy of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, scored 24 while Deang Deang finished with 19 to lead the Purplegolders.
East jumped out to a 23-8 lead in the game's first 10 minutes and took a 41-25 lead into halftime.
The Skippers opened the second half on an 18-5 run to cut the deficit to four points. The Purplegolders, however, pushed the lead back to double digits and cruised to the victory.
Amir Coffey seems to have regained his form.
The Hopkins senior scored a game-high 32 points Saturday night to lead the Royals past Des Moines Hoover 93-70 in the nightcap of the Breakdown Sports USA Tip Off Classic at Hopkins High School.
Coffey, a Minnesota commit, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the third game last season. Prior to his injury, he was averaging 30 points per game.
Vinnie Shahid was nearly as impressive, finishing with 27 points while Simon Wright added 16 for Hopkins.
The Royals wasted little time in showing their skill, going on a 17-2 run to open the game. Hopkins cruised to a 58-33 halftime lead and didn't let up in the second half, where Coffey, Shahid, Wright and their teammates maintaining a healthy margin despite being outscored 37-35.
Hosea Treadwell had 29 points and Y'vez Qunn added 17 for the Huskies.
