Coming off the first state championship in school history, Dover-Eyota starts the season ranked No. 1 in Class 2A by Minnesota Basketball News.

The Eagles, who defeated Sauk Centre 71-58 in the Class 2A title game in their first appearance at state last year, return several big pieces from a 31-2 team, including Madison Nelson and Megan Hintz, who each averaged 16 points per game during the regular season as juniors.

Dover-Eyota, however, may struggle to fill the scoring output of Brandi Blattner, who scored 25 points in the state championship and is now at St. Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota.

The No. 3-2A Mainstreeters also get back a good amount of talent from last season's state runner-up team, perhaps none more important than sophomore Maesyn Theisen, who scored 23 points in the championship game.

With a host of returning players still feeling the sting of a loss to Dover-Eyota, Sauk Centre could be out for some revenge and put on an intense early season show when the teams meet in our Top Game of the Week.
