Champlin Park coach Mark Tuchscherer returns some talented pieces from last season's 31-1 squad. But the Rebels' lineup has some holes to fill and could be tested in a game at Robbinsdale Armstrong on Dec. 4. Photo by Rick Orndorf
Champlin Park has been on an impressive run the past two seasons, winning 49 of 51 regular-season games.
The stretch includes posting an incredible 26-0 record last year, and the Rebels carried that momentum into the postseason, where they won five consecutive games to reach the Class 4A state tournament championship.
A sixth victory and a state title proved elusive, however, as Champlin Park recorded its first loss of the season in a 72-67 overtime defeat to Apple Valley.
There are many factors in putting together a long streak, but one that seems prevalent for the Rebels is closing out tight games.
One close game Champlin Park played in last year was a 64-61 win against its season-opening opponent, Robbinsdale Armstrong.
The Falcons return some talent from a team that finish 21-7 a season ago and should be hungry for a victory after falling in their season opener to Wayzata.
This Northwest Surburban Conference cross-division matchup between quality programs could provide a challenge for the Rebels as they look to extend their winning streak and is our choice for the Top Game of the Week.
