The Northwest Suburban Conference has been highly competitive in recent years, but neither Robbinsdale Armstrong nor Maple Grove have ascended to the top and captured the league crown.

This may be the year for one of the teams. The Falcons and the Crimson are 4-0 in West Division play, and the strong starts in conference play have helped both earn high rankings in Class 4A by Minnesota Basketball News.

Robbinsdale Armstrong and Maple Grove meet on Dec. 19, and the winner will have an advantage in the division.

The Falcons and the Crimson have a history of playing close games. The largest margin of victory in three of their last four meetings has been four points. The lone exception was Robbinsdale Armstrong's 73-58 victory last December, one of the Falcons' three victories over Maple Grove in those last four games.

No. 4 Robbinsdale Armstrong relies on its seniors, who have helped the Falcons earn some close victories over tough opponents, including Osseo (61-60 on Dec. 11) and Totino-Grace (60-59 on Dec. 5).

No. 6 Maple Grove is led by a talented group of underclassmen, who have been key for the Crimson in victories over Totino-Grace (81-69 on Dec. 11) and No. 10-4A Hopkins (75-69 on Dec. 13).

This Northwest Suburban West clash between ranked teams has all the makings of an exciting showdown and is our top Game of the Week.
