Hill-Murray boys’ basketball coach Dick Ghizoni retired after 33 years as a head coach and 450 career victories. Ghizoni coached St. Agnes for 23 years, leading the Aggies to the Class 1A state championship in 1994, and Minneapolis Southwest for three years before taking his most recent position in 2007. “I plan to spend more time with my wife and family,” said Ghizoni, who will remain as a physical education teacher at Hill-Murray.

• Park of Cottage Grove boys’ basketball coach J Schwartzman resigned after five years at the school, during which he compiled a 9-97 record. Park also lost the services of longtime assistant wrestling coach Scott Hallock, who resigned after 10 years in the position.

• East Ridge boys’ hockey coach Doug Long, who was the only head coach in the program’s five-year history, has resigned.

• New Life Academy senior guard Emily Bolduan, who has had two knee surgeries in three years, surpassed the 1,000-point mark in the Eagles’ 65-60 overtime victory over St. Agnes in the Class 2A, Section 4 quarterfinals.

• Junior James Pleski’s third-place finish at 138 pounds in the Class 3A wrestling tournament was the best finish for a Forest Lake wrestler since Ben Morgan won the 132-pound title in 2012.

• East Ridge’s 66-49 victory over Rosemount in the Class 4A, Section 3 quarterfinals was the first playoff victory for the girls’ basketball team since the school opened.

• Thursday’s Class 4A, Section 3 girls’ basketball championship game marked the third consecutive year that Park and Eastview met with a state tournament berth on the line.

• When Tartan played in the boys’ basketball state tournament, it marked its 10th appearance in the tourney. It was the first since 2005, which was the last in a string of eight consecutive appearances.
