Senior forward Jake Maiers will be counted to be more of an impact player for the Shakopee boys’ basketball team this season.
“Jake is a leaper who can dunk at ease,” Shakopee coach Bruce Kugath said. “He can score in bunches and will be improved at both ends of the floor this season.”
Maiers averaged 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game as a junior when the Sabers finished 16-11.
He also is a member of the Sabers’ track team. He competes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and triple jump and runs a leg on the 4x100 relay team.
Here is a closer look at Maiers:

A I started playing basketball in the fourth grade on an in-house team. I joined the track team in the seventh grade.

A In basketball, add the shot clock, and half-court granny shots equal six points.

A I’m a Pokemon Master.

Q In 10 years, I hope I’m …
A … enjoying a good life.

Q What is the best sports advice you ever received?
