The Browerville Tigers boys’ basketball team improved to 13 – 1 on the season after defeating the Huskies from Pillager (10 – 6) last Friday night.  Browerville used a solid defense forcing the Huskies into 23 turnovers to just 9 for the Tigers.  Mitchell Heid had 11 steals on the night as the Tigers had 19 total steals for the game.

E.J. Ziegler, Pillager, led all scorers with 25 points.  He ended won blocked shot shy of a triple-double while pulling down 17 rebounds (7 offensive).  No one else scored in double digits for the Huskies.  “E.J. is a tough player.  We had a hard time with his length and did not keep him far enough away from the basket,” said Coach Schueller from Browerville.

The Tigers did minimize open looks from the outside with a good man defense that forced the Huskies out of their comfort zone and into multiple turnovers.  Browerville took advantage of the extra possessions and used a balanced offense to put up 73 points.

Browerville took care of the basketball despite an aggressive defense by the Huskies.  The Tigers offense started out slow in the second half as Pillager would get within 6 points.  Then with some full-court pressure, the Tigers again were able to pull away.  Pillager went four minutes without scoring and Browerville increased their lead to 15 points.

With the clock working against the Huskies, Browerville made their last 6 free-throws and was 9 of 11 in the second half to secure the victory by a final score of 73 – 57.

Kyle Petermeier finished with 20 points for Browerville.  He also had 5 rebounds and 3 assists.  Bryce Irsfeld scored 13.  11 in the second half.  Brad Dreher had 10 points and 7 rebounds.  Trent Johnson and Mitchell Heid scored 9 points, and 8 points respectively and each had 4 rebounds.  Heid also had 11 steals and 8 assists for a solid all-around performance.

This week the Tigers are playing Tuesday night at home against West Central Area, and again at home Friday night against the Cardinals from Upsala.  The Browerville boys’ and girls’ teams will again be raising money for the American Cancer Society of MN this week as part of the Coaches vs Cancer program.  Thursday’s game will be the Tigers’ girls team vs Royalton.  This night is titled “Pink Ribbon” night as pink ribbons will be handed out for any size donation.  Friday’s game is the Tigers’ boys team vs Upsala.  That night will be “Pack it Purple” night featuring purple shirts.  The pre-sold Shooting for a Cure t-shirt will get you into both games free-of-charge.  $3 for each t-shirt sold goes as a donation to the American Cancer Society of MN.  There is also a raffle ticket which will be being sold during the games this week along with some half-time games which will also be done to raise donations.  Both teams ask that you come join in this worthy cause.
