Browerville notches three big wins against Parkers Prairie, Osakis, and Eagle Valley

Browerville 88, Parkers Prairie 69

Last Tuesday the Browerville Tigers traveled to Parkers Prairie and used a powerful offense to come home with an 88 to 69 win.  After an outburst of 40 first half points, the Tigers followed with a 48 point second half.  Browerville dished out 27 team assists and had a nice balanced attack with four starters in double digits.

The Tigers defense forced the Panthers into 8 turnovers early in the half and turned the extra possessions into points.  Kyle Petermeier scored 10 points, and Brad Dreher 6, from the inside while Trent Johnson provided 11 points from the outside, including three from 3-point range.  Mitch Heid also hit two from outside the arc and Jordan Thielen added another.

After building a comfortable 30 to 13 point lead, the Tigers had some turnovers of their own and PP took full advantage to get back in the game.  Eric Ronning scored 11 of the Panthers next 16 points, and PP outscored the Tigers by ten points to get within eleven at the half, 40 – 29.

Browerville scored the first six points to start the second half, but PP wouldn't go away.  With 7:45 to go, the Panthers had worked their way back to within seven behind the continued hot shooting of Ronning and a big second half by Alec Alberts.  The Tigers were able to withstand the run by the Panthers and pulled away at the end with three point shots by Bryce Irsfeld and Heid and good shooting from the free throw line, 10 of 12.

Petermeier finished with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.  Johnson had 17 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists.  Brad Dreher scored 16, had 5 boards and 2 steals.  Heid also scored 16 points, had 4 steals and 10 assists.

Browerville 75, Osakis 29

Thursday night the Browerville Tigers were back to Prairie Conference play taking on the Silverstreaks from Osakis.  The Tigers were too much for the Silverstreaks to handle.  Once the Tigers settled in on the offensive end, their defense took control of the game.

With 9:25 to go in the first half, Osakis was ahead in this one by a score of 10 to 9.  Coach Schueller called a timeout for the Tigers who were struggling on the offensive end.  “We just weren't working for good shots,” said Coach Schueller.”  The timeout proved worthwhile for the Tigers who then outscored the Silverstreaks 18 to 3 to take a 27 – 13 lead into the locker room.

Trent Johnson began the second half with a 3-pointer and the Tigers were off and running.  Cody Hansmeyer scored and then Brad Dreher made five of the Tigers next six baskets.  The score was now 46 – 21, but the Tigers weren't finished.  With just over 7 minutes to play, and a free throw by Kyle Petermeier, the clock continued to run as the Tigers pushed their lead to 35 points.  Petermeier would also put an exclamation on this game by benefiting from a steal by Mitchell Heid who passed it ahead to Petermeier who finished it off with a dunk.

Petermeier led all scorers with 19 and also pulled in 5 rebounds.  Dreher scored 14 of his 16 in the second half.  He also had 4 boards and 3 assists.  Cody Hansmeyer and Jordan Thielen each scored 9, while Trent Johnson and Mitch Heid finished with 8 points each.  Heid also had 5 steals and 9 assists.  Bryce Irsfeld completed the scoring with 6 points and dished out 4 assists.

Browerville 85, Eagle Valley 42

The Browerville Tigers began Friday night's game against Eagle Valley where they left off the night before.  For the 4th time in 5 halves, the Tigers put up 40 or more points.  Browerville's Mitch Heid came out sizzling the net with three 3-pointers.  After the first 6 ½ minutes of play, the Tigers had a 20 to 2 lead.  Trent Johnson also tossed in a 3 pointer as Browerville started the game 4 for 4 from behind the arc.  Eagle Valley would get as close as 17 points with 8:50 on the clock and the score 27 – 10, Browerville.

Browerville then went on to hold the Rebels scoreless over the next 5 minutes and increased their lead to 29 points.  At the half, Browerville was at 49 points to Eagle Valley's 16.

The Tigers continued shooting the ball well in the second half as everyone got involved in this one.  Five players scored in double digits for the Tigers.  Mitch Heid led all scorers with 18 points on 6 for 9 shooting from three point range.  He also had 7 assists and 4 blocked shots.  Bryce Irsfeld finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds.  Kyle Petermeier scored 16, had 4 boards and 7 assists.  Brad Dreher and Trent Johnson each scored 12 and 11 respectively.  Cody Hansmeyer scored 7 points and had 7 rebounds.

The Browerville Tigers are now 7 – 1 in the Prairie Conference and 12 – 1 overall.  This week the Tigers will be at home against the Pillager Huskies on Friday, February 1.
