The Browerville Tigers took care of the Royals from Royalton last Tuesday night in a Prairie Conference game in Browerville on Parent's Night.

In front of a good sized crowd of parents, family, the high school band, elementary kids waiting to show their stuff at half time, and a Royalton crowd anxious to see Luke Wentland reach the 1000 point plateau, the Tigers used a solid defensive performance and balanced offense to defeat Royalton by a final score of 71 – 35.

It didn't take long for the Royals to find out that the Tigers' defense was going to be tough to break.  Browerville broke open an early lead and never looked back.  Trent Johnson put an exclamation point on the end of the first half by hitting a three pointer at the buzzer.  With 4 seconds on the clock, Johnson was put into the game for a chance at getting a final shot.  The ball was moved up court by Mitch Heid who found an open Johnson with just enough time to get the shot off.  Johnson's three pointer gave Browerville a 41 to 20 half time lead.

Luke Wentland scored 12 first half points while needing 18 to reach 1000 points in his varsity career.  Wentland scored 10 of the Royals first 14 points.  Kyle Petermeier was equally effective while scoring 9 of the Tigers first 12 points, and 12 overall first half points.  After three pointers by Bryce Irsfeld and Trent Johnson, the Tigers lead was 15 points with just under 8 minutes remaining.  Browerville outscored Royalton by 4 points the rest of the first half and led by 21 going into the locker room.

Royalton struck first in the second half with a quick basket by Wentland and a 3-pointer by Ethan Zimny.  Johnson answered with a 3-point shot for the Tigers.  The Royals managed to get within 15 points with 12:29 remaining.  Browerville's defense then took over, holding the Royals to just 4 points for the remainder of the game while scoring 25.

Luke Wentland finished the game with 16 points to lead the Royals.

Kyle Petermeier scored 17 points, and pulled down 15 rebounds for the Tigers.  Brad Dreher finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Trent Johnson scored 12 points, all on three point shooting.  Mitchell Heid and Bryce Irsfeld each scored 9.  Heid also had 9 rebounds and 7 assists.  The Tigers out-rebounded the Royals 42 to 22 and dished out 21 team assists.

Browerville's home game against Osakis on Friday night was postponed until January 24 due to the weather.  The Tigers are now 8 – 1 overall and 4 – 1 in the Prairie Conference.  Next up for Browerville is Long Prairie on Thursday, January 17 in Browerville.
