The Browerville Tigers Boys’ Basketball Team traveled to Barrett last Thursday to take on the West Central Area Knights. A strong performance by the Tigers resulted in a comfortable win with a final score of 74 – 56.

The Tigers used good balance on the offensive end with four players scoring in double digits and eight players scoring all together. They also threw a mix of defenses at the Knights to keep them off-balance and force them into 18 turnovers, including 16 steals by the Tigers.

Browerville played consistent from the beginning to the end, not running away with the game, but keeping control. The Tigers led on the boards 23 to 13 and controlled the tempo of the game. Kyle Petermeier finished with 7 rebounds.

The half time score was 36 – 28 after Petermeier dropped in a three-pointer at the buzzer. In the second half, the Tigers opened up the scoring early behind 3 three-point shots by Mitch Heid and another one by Trent Johnson. The Tigers
extended their lead to 16 points before WCA got it back to 10 points. After a timeout by Browerville, the Tigers finished the game by outscoring the Knights 17 to 12 by shooting well from the free-throw line.

Browerville finished 12 of 15 from the FT line. Petermeier led the scoring for the Tigers with 19 points. Brad Dreher scored 16 points. Heid finished with 13 points, 5 steals and 4 assists. Trent Johnson ended the game with 10 points.

On Friday night, Swanville came to Browerville ready for a battle. This one went down to the wire and Browerville pulled out a 58 to 54 win. The consistency the Tigers had the night before was not there against the Bulldogs defense.

For the first time early in this season, the Tigers were outrebounded 32 to 26 by the Bulldogs. Cody Mollner pulled down 12 rebounds for Swanville.

Browerville led 29 – 20 at half time by playing a solid defense. However, fouls forced the Tigers to focus on defense for long stretches of time and the offense was struggling. The Tigers went to Petermeier on the inside for 11 of the teams
29 points. Cody Hansmeyer also found some success scoring 8 first half points.

The second half found more offensive struggles for the Tigers while the Swanville offense wouldn’t back down. The Bulldogs put up 34 second half points, led by Austin Mollner’s 12 points, and Cody Mollner scored all of his points (8) in the half also.

Browerville’s offense continued to struggle in the second half and only managed five (5) field goals in the half. The Tigers again went to their inside game. Petermeier found himself at the free-throw line often and connected on 10 of 11
free-throws. Browerville made 19 of 29 from the line in the second half and found a way to finish the game with a 58 to 54 win.

Kyle Petermeier finished with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Cody Hansmeyer scored 12 points and had 5 rebounds.

Next week the Tigers play in the Verndale Holiday Tournament on Monday and Tuesday night and Upsala on Friday night in Upsala.
