Browerville Tigers Win Opener

Last Friday night, the Browerville Tigers opened their season with a victory against the Bertha-Hewitt Bears. Four Tigers finished in double figures and the team pulled away in the second half for an 81 to
59 win.

Brad Dreher started the season scoring the games first basket while getting fouled. The free-throw was good and the Tigers never lost the lead. Browerville opened up 5 – 0 and climbed to an early 10 to 2 lead. The Bears, led by Preston Riewer, pulled within one at 14 – 13. Trent Johnson extended the lead
with two quick baskets, including a three pointer that banked in from the top of the key. Browerville continued to extend their lead to 13 and finished the first half with a 38 – 28 advantage.

Browerville was led by Dreher's 10 points and Kyle Petermeier's 9 points in the first half. Mitch Heid had 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 4 assists before leaving the game with a knee injury. Preliminary diagnosis is a slight sprain which could keep Heid out of the next game against Sebeka,
December 4.

Six different players scored 18 points to start the second half for Browerville, as the Tigers took a demanding 19 point lead, 56 – 37. Bryce Irsfeld connected on two three pointers and Johnson made his second of the game during the 18 to 9 run. Jordan Thielen, playing in place of the injured Heid, had a key role in keeping the Bears' Riewer in check to begin the second half. Thielen also made a three point shot during this run.

Preston Riewer led all scorers with 27 points. He had 17 of the Bears' 28 first half points. Riewer was held to just one field goal in the second half, but finished the game 15 for 15 from the free-throw line.

The Tigers led by as much as 23 in this one and finished with a 22 point non-conference win to start the
season.

Cody Hansmeyer scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half. He also had 10 rebounds. Petermeier finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Irsfeld and Dreher each scored 12. Dreher also had 8 rebounds. Eight players found the scoring column for the Tigers who also outrebounded the Bears 42
– 21, and made 21 of 31 free-throws.

Browerville's B-team and C-team were also victorious in their first game of the season.
