Raiders run-and-gun past Stars, 70-54

In a game expected to have some wide-open guard play, it took a while before the fans got what they were looking for. But in the end, it was exactly that key guard play that led Roseville to a 70-54 victory over Holy Angels at the Breakdown Tip Off Classic at Minnetonka High School.

Much of the first half was a grinding, uneven game that left both teams frustrated. Holy Angels had earned a 24-22 lead in that tight, defensive first half. But after intermission, Roseville opened up the full court with a four-guard lineup that caused the Stars fits.

The Raiders poured in 48 second-half points, using a combination of pressure defense and the shot-making of Mack Johnson, Ben Farmer, Logan Brown and the only "big man" on the court, 6-foot-7 Jordan Burich. Roseville forced 17 second-half turnovers and quickly took a double-digit lead midway through the half.

Roseville extended the lead with a fastbreak layup and-one for Brown.  Johnson followed with a deep trey and forced another Stars turnover and the score was 55-37 with seven minutes remaining.

Quick junior point guard Jordan Dembley attacked the rim repeatedly in the final few minutes, but could bring Holy Angels no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Johnson led Roseville with 18 points, while Burich (13), Farmer (12) and Brown (11) also had double-figures. Dembley led all scores with 19 points, 14 coming in the second half as he tried to keep the game close. Delshon Strickland added 12.
