Hot-shooting Lakers soar past Greyhounds, 85-56

When 7-footer Carson Shanks pulled up and drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key, Prior Lake knew it was its day. It certainly was.

The Lakers opened the 9th annual Breakdown Tip Off Classic at Minnetonka High School with a resounding 85-56 victory over Duluth East. Junior guard Jon Sobaski led the way with 20 points, while Shanks had 13 and Jason Faul and Taylor Heidecker each chipped in with a dozen.

But as evidenced by Shanks' trey, the big victory didn't come the way many had expected. The bigger Lakers were expected to be dominant in the paint against East, which had no one to match up with that length -- even with Prior Lake's 6-foot-10 Jeff Probert missing the game to take his ACTs.

Instead, the Lakers (3-0) did much of their damage from the perimeter in opening up a 15-point halftime lead. Great ball movement led to open threes for Sobaski, Heidecker, Alex Spanton and even Shanks.

Shaq Coleman scored 20 points for Duluth East (0-2), which also received 16 from senior Mat Lochner and 15 from Rell Ladd.
