EASTVIEW 91, APPLE VALLEY 84: Two teams from the same town usually don’t need any extra hype for their rivalry matchup. Throw into the mix that they are the No. 1- and No. 3-ranked teams in Class 4A, and you have fans literally hanging from the rafters as well as sitting and standing around the court. That was the case Friday night in Apple Valley when an overflow crowd (capacity 3,046) watched top-ranked Eastview and the third-rated host Eagles square off in an intense South Suburban Conference battle. The two teams’ leading scorers, Eastview senior Joey King and Apple Valley sophomore Tyus Jones, traded baskets throughout the night. King, a Drake recruit, finished with 37 points, while Jones wound up with a game-high 39 points and also dished out 11 assists. King went 12-for-13 from the free-throw line, and Jones was 10-for-10. Both teams had four players in double figures. Eastview junior forward Ben Oberfeld also finished with a double-double (12 points and 11 rebounds). The Lightning (11-0) scored 54 points in the second half after falling behind by one at the intermission. Apple Valley (10-2) used a 13-1 run late in the first half in overcome a six point deficit, and eventually take a 37-36 lead into the locker room at the intermission. Ticket sales for the matchup were stopped an hour before the opening tipoff.

• LAKEVIEW CHRISTIAN 95, CHRIST’S HOUSEHOLD OF FAITH 61: Junior guard Anders Broman scored 39 points, including the 3,000th of his career, as Lakeview Christian cruised to the victory over CHOF. He surpassed the milestone on a layup after taking a pass from his younger brother, Bjorn. It was his third game of the year with 39 points, a season low. Broman entered the game averaging over 45 points per game, including a school-record 56 in the opening game of the season against Proctor.

• BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S 82, IRONDALE 67: The Class 3A, No. 1 Red Knights scored the first 12 points of the second half, pulling away from the Knights for the North Suburban victory. Will Dunn paced Benilde-St. Margaret’s with a season-high 21 points.

• MINNEAPOLIS NORTH 61, MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT 59: Junior forward Lee Gaines tipped in a missed shot with 6 seconds remaining, lifting the Polars over the Teddies in Minneapolis City play. Roosevelt called a timeout following the basket and got a good look at a three-pointer at the buzzer but missed the shot. Gaines finished with a game-high 15 points, while senior Corey Jones added 14. Sophomore Demetrius Durant Jr. led the Teddies with 14 points.

• MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN 72, MINNEAPOLIS HENRY 69 (OT): The Millers, rated No. 2 in Class 3A, scored the first four points of overtime after Chucky Smith scored the final three points in the closing seconds of regulation to force the extra session, in a tough victory over the Patriots in Minneapolis City play.

• LAKEVILLE SOUTH 58, PRIOR LAKE 55: Senior Devon Bzoskie scored 17 points off the bench as the Cougars topped the Lakers in South Suburban action. Bzoskie hit four three-pointers, effectively beating Prior Lake’s zone defense.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

• NEW PRAGUE 70, CHASKA 67 (OT): Junior guard Annie Dittberner went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in overtime when the Trojans scored 11 points to outlast the Hawks in a Missota Conference matchup. She made her last two free throws with 15 seconds left, putting New Prague up 70-67. Dittberner finished with 19 points. Teammate senior forward Anna Rynda scored 13 of her 20 points after halftime.

• WATERTOWN-MAYER 79, NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA 57: Creighton-bound senior guard Marissa Janning scored 32 points, lifting the Royals over the Raiders in a Minnesota River Conference game. She has scored more than 3,000 points in her career.
