Bloomington Kennedy at No. 1 Apple Valley
7 p.m, Friday, Jan. 31

Bloomington Kennedy has a nice squad that has won 10 games and stands in third place in the South Suburban Conference. But this game is all about the ongoing show that is Apple Valley basketball. The defending Class 4A state champions have beaten every Minnesota team they’ve faced (only losing 80-70 to Chicago’s Whitney Young in an ESPN-televised game on Dec. 12) and senior point guard Tyus Jones (27.6 ppg) continues to show why he’s considered the best prospect to ever come out of the state. With Jones pouring in 30 points, Apple Valley already beat Kennedy earlier this season, 100-75 on Dec. 20. In addition to Jones’ nightly wizardry at the point, the Eagles also feature great young talent in sophomore post Brock Bertram (11.2 ppg), freshman shooting guard Gary Trent, Jr. (10.8 ppg), Jordan Bolton (5.9 ppg), Cam Kirksey (4.8 ppg) and eighth-grader Tre Jones (3.2 ppg). Seniors Dennis Austin (11.6 ppg) and Robert Tobroxen (7.5 ppg) add toughness and experience.
