Edina at No. 5 Eden Prairie
7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24

These two Lake Conference powers both advanced to the state tournament last year but suffered different kinds of losses in the offseason. Whereas Eden Prairie brought back three starters for long-time coach David Flom, Edina welcomed in a new coach (Joe Burger) and graduated a ton of talent, including Mr. Basketball finalist Graham Woodward. The ups and downs have been inevitable for the Hornets, who come in with a 4-4 record in their last eight games. Senior Mahad Haji (15.1 ppg) has stepped into a starring role, as has super freshman Walt McGrory (18.3 ppg). Eden Prairie augmented its returning veterans with Maranatha Christian Academy transfer Grantham Gillard (21.7 ppg), who has given the Eagles an athletic and explosive scorer alongside point guard Andre Wallace (18.9 ppg).
