St. Paul Central stacked its nonconference schedule early in the season, resulting in only three wins in its first 12 games. But the Minutemen have since have won five straight games and assumed the top spot in the St. Paul City Conference standings.

Sophomore Daveonte Davis (13.8 ppg) has shown consistency for St. Paul Central (8-9, 4-0), while senior Re’Twan Balenger has been trending upward after a season-high 28 points in a 81-69 win over St. Paul Washington last Friday.

Similarly, St. Paul Como Park won two games in its first 12 before the Cougars (6-10, 3-1) hit their stride during conference play, winning their past four games.

Trey Clark (12 ppg) has posted consistent numbers for St. Paul Como Park, including a game-high 15 points in the Cougars' 64-44 win over Minneapolis South on Jan. 27.
