Elk River vs. Moorhead

Elk River has shown the tenacity to close out tight games this season to remain undefeated. Five of the No. 2-4A Elks’ wins have come by fewer than 10 points and four of the five have come against ranked teams.

Elk River (15-0, 6-0) earned three of those tough victories in succession when it beat No. 6-4A Centennial 61-57 on Jan. 12, No. 10-4A St. Michael-Albertville 65-62 on Jan. 13 and No. 15-4A Champlin Park 68-63 on Jan. 17. The Elks rolled to a 77-46 victory against Totino-Grace on Jan. 20 with Gabi Haack, Ava Kramer, Lydia Haack and Sidney Wentland all reaching double figures in scoring.

The Spuds (11-5) have a top scorer in the form of Sam Haiby. Haiby set the Moorhead school record for points in a game when she dropped 44 on Fargo Shanley on Jan. 17 in an 82-72 win that extended her team’s winning streak to nine games.

Minnetonka snapped the Spuds’ winning streak on Jan. 20 with a 69-60 victory. Haiby finished with 23 points while Brooke Tonsfeldt had 14 and Jalen Ennen added 10.
