Cretin-Derham Hall was up by five points with under six minutes left in the second half against Woodbury on Friday, but the lead was suddenly in jeopardy.

Daniel Oturu, the Raiders' star player, left the game with a cramp in his right leg, and the Royals were getting ready to respond as Cretin-Derham Hall's student section fell quiet.

But Oturu, who verbally committed Thursday to attend Minnesota, quickly came back into the game, sparking an 18-7 run by the Raiders en route to an 89-73 victory over their Suburban East Conference rivals.

"They made a run so I needed to respond real quick so my team wouldn't get down too quick," Oturu said. "Everybody came to watch us win. We weren't just going to lose."

Among those who came to watch was Gophers head coach Richard Pitino.

Cretin-Derham Hall (9-4, 6-0 Suburban East) and Woobury (10-4, 6-1 Suburban East) battled to a 40-40 tie at halftime, with neither team mustering more than a five-point lead.

They were tied at with 10:29 left in the second half before the Raiders started to pull away. They ended the game on a 32-16 run, with Oturu scoring 18 of his team-leading 33 points in the second half.

"I just felt our defense was the difference tonight," Raiders coach Jerry Kline Jr. said. "Creating the tough shots and us being able to execute on the other end led us to finish that game off."

The Raiders’ Jake Prince added 18 points in the winning effort. For Woodbury, Michael Jones led the team with 26 points while Jake West had 24. They combined to score 30 of their team’s 40 first-half points.

"We really kept coming after Jones, who is obviously so talented," Kline said. "They spread you out, they run their offense and are so precise in what they do."

The Royals relied heavily on three-point shooting, making nine of their attempts.
