Red Wing at Rochester John Marshall
7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19

It took a game-winning half-court shot in overtime for Mankato East to end Red Wing's season-long winning streak, but the basket had a larger impact as it set up a potential winner-take-all matchup for the Big 9 Conference championship between the Wingers and rival Rochester John Marshall on Friday.

Both teams have league contests on Tuesday, and barring an upset, the conference crown will be decided when No. 2-3A Red Wing (23-1, 19-1) face the No. 7-4A Rockets  (21-3, 19-1) on the road in the regular-season finale.

When the teams last met on Jan. 12, the Wingers got a season-high 28 points from senior forward Joe Sevlie and 23 from senior Travis Toivonen in a 75-65 victory.

There is little doubt who the Red Wing defense is committed to stopping as John Marshall is powered by the Hurt brothers. Matthew, just a freshman, poured in 28 points while Michael, a senior and future Gopher, was limited to just 11 in the first matchup.
