First Report

Despite boasting a roster with a potential NBA first rounder, the Apple Valley Eagles fell in the Class 2A, Section 3 championship game last season.

Tyus Jones has since graduated, but the Eagles look just fine without him.

They’ll get their chance at redemption this year as they head back to the section championship following a 65-39 victory over Rosemount on Saturday.

Jones’ younger brother, Tre, helped lead the charge for the Eagles, recording 13 points in the Apple Valley victory and shutting down Rosemount’s leading scorer Logan Halvorson.

It was a game dominated by Apple Valley, even though the score didn’t necessarily reflect it early.

But by half, Apple Valley had pushed its lead to 12 points and it didn’t look back.

The Eagles dominated the boards, pressured well defensively and, at times, drove to the hoop at will.
