Minnetonka has felt like family to Cedric Boone since Day 1.

The junior guard is new to the Skippers’ roster after transferring from Hopkins, but Boone has had no trouble making himself a prominent player. He has scored 51 points in four games.

“He’s got a great personality, a very humble kid,” Minnetonka coach Tom Dasovich said. “He’s accepted any role and works hard and is doing a great job for us.”

Boone played the role of super sub on Friday night, stepping in for junior point guard Amar Miller, who had to sit with foul trouble, and finishing the game with 15 points to help the Skippers defeat rival Edina 82-79 in a Lake Conference matchup at Minnetonka High School.

“I thought Cedric Boone did an excellent job filling in for (Miller) and taking care of the ball,” Dasovich said.

Boone not only took care of the ball, but also scored five unanswered points with less than 9 minutes to go in the game to increase Minnetonka’s lead.

“(Amar) was a big loss, but I just had to dig down and told myself I needed to get the win for the team and control the pace of the game,” Boone said.

Boone’s scoring has been a boon for the Skippers. His 12.8 points-per-game average is fourth-best on the team.

Boone didn’t make the move to Minnetonka alone. His twin brother, Aaron, is also on the Skippers’ varsity roster. Cedric said he has a good connection with his brother because they are fraternal twins and benefits from having Aaron on the team.

“We love each other, but oh, we for sure compete all the time,” Boone said.

Getting the Minnetonka’s first conference win of the season is important, but Boone and Dasovich know the Skippers’ have a long road ahead, including another league matchup with the Hornets on Jan. 30 - and a possible rematch in the Class 4A, Section 6 playoffs.

“I feel like our conference is the toughest conference in the state,” Dasovich said. (Edina is) section opponent so every game that we have with these guys is really going to be intense.”
