Defending Class 1A boys basketball state champion Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa had its 70-game winning streak in Central Minnesota Conference games ended by Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Tuesday.

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted defeated the Jaguars, 72-28, in a game played in Howard Lake. Cole Gagnon led the Lakers with 15 points.

It was the first conference loss for the Jaguars since a 77-64 loss to Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Dec. 15, 2009.

Earlier this month, the Jaguars had another long streak snapped. On Dec. 2, Upsala won 58-55 in Brooten to end a 71-game home winning streak dating to the 2008-09 season.
