The only “Big 3” that’s ever mattered to Reid Travis is the one he and his DeLaSalle teammates completed on Saturday night at Target Center.

DeLaSalle won its third straight state title with a 60-40 victory over Austin.

“Exactly how I envisioned it,” Travis said about the end to his hyped career. “I couldn’t ask for anything more. To win a state championship with my community, my family, my teammates, this is what I dreamed about. All the individual stuff kind of goes to the side. Now I share this moment with everybody.”

It’s always been about the complete package for the Islanders and it was evident one last time. Their first five field goals were scored by each of the starters. Sacar Anim kicked off the night with an alley-oop dunk, Geno Crandall followed with a jumper, James Lawson a three-pointer, Travis a layup, and Jarvis Johnson a three-pointer.

The stage was set for back-to-back-to-back state titles. The last boys’ basketball team to achieve this feat was Hopkins in Class 4A from 2009-2011.

Travis closed out his high school career with a team-high 16 points and five rebounds. Anim scored 13, Lawson had nine points and 11 rebounds, and Crandall had seven assists, seven rebounds and four points.

Austin was led by Ajuda Nywesh’s game-high 24 points.

“Everyone is so selfless,” Crandall said. “That’s a big part of what keeps us together and builds chemistry. That’s the staple of what we do at ‘D.’ ”

DeLaSalle finished the season on a 22-0 winning streak after starting the season 4-3.

Austin kept pace with DeLaSalle for six minutes. The Packers relied on three-point shooting and found themselves tied, 14-14, with 12:03 to play in the first half. Six of Austin’s seven first-half field goals were from beyond the arc.

But then Austin went cold and shot 26.9 percent from the field in the first half, while DeLaSalle went on a 19-6 run for a 33-20 lead at the half. The Islanders were 68.4 percent shooting on the night.

Austin coach Kris Fadness said the Packers rode their horses, but it just wasn’t good enough. He couldn’t be upset with a loss to such a fully-loaded DeLaSalle lineup.

The Islanders’ seniors carried the load one final time, but the title game also showed off a bright future. Four-star recruit Johnson will lead DeLaSalle as a senior next season and freshman Goanar Mar looked poised to fill in for Travis.

Gach Gach and Bret Lukes each contributed three-pointers during Austin’s quality start, but scored a combined four the rest of the game. The Packers lost to DeLaSalle 50-33 in last year’s Class 3A title game.

Only one of Minnesota’s nationally hyped “Big 3” recruits capped his career as a state champion. Target Center roared as Travis, the Stanford-bound big man, left the game with 30 seconds remaining.
