Minnehaha Academy at No. 7-1A Maranatha Christian
7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6

Two of the Twin Cities’ best small-school powers go head-to-head Thursday night when Class 1A Maranatha Christian Academy hosts Class 2A Minnehaha Academy. The host Mustangs have won 16 of 17 games (falling only 74-71 to Minneapolis Washburn on Jan. 11) after finishing second to Southwest MN Christian in last year’s state final. While they lost three key players from that team, sharp-shooting junior Jeremiah Hanson (23.9 ppg) and senior Josh Goldschmidt (11.1 ppg) again have the Mustangs in the thick of title talk. Juniors Jake Meyen (12.6 ppg) and Cameron Monson (11.8 ppg) also hit double-figure scoring. Minnehaha Academy won the Class 2A state title last winter, but suffered even steeper losses to graduation with four starters gone. It’s been an up and down year for the young Redhawks, who started the season 2-6 in their first eight games but have since won eight of 11. Freshman and leading scorer Joevon Walker (12.4 ppg) is the present and future of Minnehaha basketball.
